I used to think: 'our bond is so strong’

Anna Heyward’s love, loss and lessons of life with her dog Freddie.

When Anna Heyward adopted a rescue Italian greyhound named Freddie, she imagined a pooch-perfect life with him. But it soon transpired that Freddie had an extreme case of separation anxiety: if left alone for more than a few seconds, he would start hurting himself. Anna’s attempts to bring Freddie to work with her ended in disaster and she would soon be spending endless hours – and thousands of dollars - trying help to him overcome his disorder. Before long, Anna’s professional and personal life began to unravel. Anna Heyward’s memoir is called Living with Freddie.
